Spain is a USD 1.4 Trillion economy and is home to 47 million residents , that indicates a high consumption potential. The GDP of the country has increased from USD 1.2 Trillion in 2015 to USD 1.4 Trillion in 2018. The average household consumption expenditure amounts to approximately 57% of the GDP and the final consumption takes up to 77% of the GDP.
Spain is a USD 370 Billion import market, which is largely serviced by exporters from China, US, and European countries like Netherlands, Italy, France and India and SE-Asia. Spain’s imports have grown from USD 303 Billion in 2016 to USD 375 Billion in 2018. But in 2020 the imports dropped to USD 330 due to the outbreak of the COVID, the introduction of lockdown, the global supply chain was badly hit.

Spain is one the member of the European Union. And the European Union has a Generalized Scheme of Preference (GSP) in place where in the import duties of the products that are entering the EU and exporters are certain developing countries, in such cases the import duties are waived off. And India falls in GSP, enabling exporters to be exempted from the import duties or reduced import duties.

India exports an average of USD 3.5 Billion value of exports per year to Spain. India’s share in Spain’s imports have steady from 2016 to 2019, at approximately at 1.3%, but in 2020, due to the COVID situation it contracted back to 1.1%.
